Activities in Third Grade continue to focus on students' ability to locate and utilize information in developmentally appropriate ways. Third grade students use the computer for the completion of tasks through the use of various software products. Third grade students continue to use shared folders on the LFCDS server to save their work. Students continue to explore information resources and ways to convey completed projects. Students utilize a variety of multimedia resources and work collaboratively with their peers in completing projects. |
The information literacy team works with third graders as they tackle research projects for the classroom. Students are exposed to a variety of resources including independent searches on the Internet through credible sources including the online subscription en-cyclopedia. Third graders learn to take notes that cull important information out of texts without copying or plagiarizing. |
Third graders have fewer regularly
scheduled visits to the library than the earlier grades. Much of their
library contact is in the context of information literacy. However,
they still visit the library for book talks. They are presented with
series books, more sophisticated chapter books and narrative non-fiction
for their independent reading. They practice browsing, using more sophisticated
tools to make choices, and the use of the catalog to locate desired
materials. |
