Typical Activities

Activities in First Grade are planned with developmentally appropriate skills in mind. Students work on using input devices such as the keyboard and mouse and output devices such as the monitor and printer for Educational Technology activities. First Graders also interact with simple robotic devices to enhance mathematic reasoning. Students view pre-approved websites, utilize skill building software and drawing software to support their classroom curricula.

Students are introduced to a variety of multimedia resources and work collaboratively with their peers in completing projects.

Grade One students visit the library weekly. Story times include easy readers, long pictures books and book-talks on beginning chapter books. Students begin to work on understanding library conventions in labeling and organizing materials. In conjunction with classroom teachers, simple research projects involve exploring the use of more sophisticated nonfiction and reference books.
